NY City Marathon 11-4-07
The Race from Mile 5
The crew was cold as we started to get our mile point together!!

Hans looks on as he is wearing his head phones to hear the communications.
Lynda and Jackie are great at recording the numbers of the first 10 runners from each group to pass us.
Nancy records all of the important information and is a focal point for our efforts.
A band set up across the street from our medical station making it hard to hear. The music was lively though, I am not sure if the runners picked up the beat.
A second band set up just down the street, this one had a lot more power and we were blasted from both sides of us all day. It was festive, it was loud!!!
Professional photographers readied their long lenses to capture the first place people!!

The wheel chairs whizzed by first, they were moving at incredible speed.
Notice how I matched my camera movement to the speed of the racer to capture him as he sped by. I am getting better at this picture taking after all the years of watching I think.
We clap as they race by
..
Some have custom designs for their chairs to almost eliminate their disabilities from slowing them up.
Surely this is a great day for these people just be here in this wonderful race.
The elite girls get to start early, I thought I had two in the picture, oh look closer, number 2 is following very close or No. 1 has four arms and three legs!

There she is, she is much smaller but stayed with the leader all the way to the finish.
Paula just gave birth 9 months ago, there is no stopping this woman.
They made no noise as the glided by on air..
Skin and muscle is all I saw run by.
Look at their feet I was right!!!!
Their feet do not touch the ground, I have found their secret out!!

A view of the hoopla that follows just ahead and just behind the lead runners. These two were so far ahead already and it was only mile 5.
It was like a comedic break as a group of 50 or so Rabbis all dressed alike pulling their cases crossed the course in between the runners.
Hans checks the master runners clock
..
Who is that man is the lead car just ahead of the male runners?
It is Steve M, W2ML, our fearless communications leader! Steve why don't you ever look our way?
The guys are coming, Lynda and Jackie get those numbers!!

I never did find out who won but this is how they passed mile 5.
Later the humorous runners started, I enjoy the spirit of these people and tried to capture a lot of them.
Most opt for different head gear.
Some go for the country flag .
We yelled Go USA................
I am not sure about this one!!

There are always a lot of horn heads that run by.
Painted bodies are popular also.
Santa's helpers were spotted
..
So much for the romantic French, I think he sewed scrub brushes together.
Get your male friend to wear a dress, it sounded like a good idea at the time I guess.
In case he passed out he wanted to make sure they would know his name!!

Go US, go Brooklyn.
You should have seen the whole suit before I dumped it at mile 4 .
Runners now are less serious and stopping for snacks and cell phone calls
..
They must be in a show no? Maybe looking for the passage over the alps to escape Germany?
Notice the Men In Black looking for the those aliens running the marathon or are those the blues brothers?
They must have run out of the superMAN costume, guy you could have been anyone else!!

This was funny we only noticed the "Bear costume" when this guy ran by, when we looked at the pictures we realized I had captured the whole star wars crew!!!
OK.
Our finest
..
The new camera is so good I could almost see who was flying over us!!!
If I eat something maybe I can get the energy to catch that 1st place person.....
She never got off the ground by us but was having a good time!!

Go RICH !!!!
What can I say?
There was a group of these Devils
..
Yes, I caught him, Elvis is alive and well and has been practicing for the NYC marathon all these years.
I wondered if the banana fell if you would slip on him or not?
Looks like this guy got some of my fat pants I donated since I lost weight!!

I was looking for some Dutch people for my good friend Margot. Then came along this fellow to represent your country! You must be so proud.
More Devils .
She thought she could sneak by my camera with her little padded pom poms but I got her
..
What's up Doc?
I am calling for a cab at mile 6.............
Not sure on this one. He was making me nervous reaching into that bag!!
This fellow was the happiest of the day and my last picture. I hope you enjoyed all !!
